I was in a bit of a mess when I first met Jacki, I wasn’t getting ahead and was living from pay to pay. She helped me complete a budget which was pretty confronting but gave me a better understanding of my spending habits. Slowly but surely I am getting on track and building some savings for my future
Angie – Aged 64
Budgeting and Cash Flow Management in action
Angela
Angela is 60 years old, currently working and doesn’t have control over her cash flow position. Money comes in and goes out and she doesn’t feel like she is getting ahead and wants to be able to afford to retire in seven years time when she qualifies for the age pension. She doesn’t want the age pension to be her only source of income.
Prior to our meeting I had Angela complete a spreadsheet outlining her current living expenses which was something she found difficult and confronting to do. We reviewed her current expenditure, and I was able to identify that based on the information she has provided, she should be able to save around $6,000 a year. I suggested Angela consider making additional contributions to superannuation as she is renting and has no debt and she agreed for me to provide recommendations in a Statement of Advice.
I reviewed Angela’s existing super fund from a cost and investment perspective and recommended she move to a more cost effective super fund that was invested in accordance with her appetite for risk. The financial projections showed her the benefit of salary sacrificing to superannuation and the increased superannuation balance she would have at retirement, which resulted in her superannuation being able to fund her retirement for a further five years, compared to her current position.
